What Man City have told their players about the guilty verdict as Arsenal’s title race continues

Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 financial charges in the Premier League following an independent panel and their players have been bailed out by the club.

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, announced what he said to the players of the Manchester City club, who were found guilty of violating the financial rules of the Premier League.

The eight-time Premier League champions were found guilty by an independent commission of 114 charges following an investigation into their finances spanning 2009-2018.

They were found guilty of all financial irregularities and most of the charges of not cooperating with the investigation. The city continues to maintain its innocence and has since appealed the verdict, while possible sanctions will be determined by an independent commission at a later hearing.

Enzo Maresca’s side will return to club action for the first time since the guilty verdict when they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool this Sunday (kick-off 4.30pm).

They are virtually guaranteed to face continued criticism from all opposition fans moving forward in light of the verdict, and there is speculation they could even face relegation if the guilty verdict stands as the football world debates how the club should be punished.

However, despite the ongoing commotion, Raiola insisted ‘everything is calm’ at the Etihad and his client is being reassured by the club.

“Can the chaos at Manchester City change anything? No, it won’t change anything for us or Gigio,” he told Il Napolista. “Stories come out from time to time. The club has spoken to Gigio and everyone is calm.

“There are important matches against Liverpool and PSG ahead and the process of sporting justice will take its course. But Gigio has received a guarantee from Manchester City.”

The city confirmed they had filed an appeal last week, insisting they had ‘comprehensive irrefutable evidence’ challenging the guilty verdict.

An official statement from the club read: “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 19:00 on Thursday 1 October 2026, the Club has lodged a comprehensive appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission in relation to a Premier League disciplinary matter.

“The Club’s firm position is that the opinion contains clear material errors of law, principle, and fact on multiple grounds and is dangerous.

“The club is innocent of the allegations made by the Premier League and there is an incontrovertible body of evidence to support all its positions in this case.

“We will continue to respect due process, and until all processes are complete, what we can say further will be strictly limited.”
