After Arsenal’s decision and Bruno Guimaraes’ message, Vinicius Jr’s transfer fee has dropped dramatically

Arsenal wanted to sign Vinicius Junior throughout the summer transfer window, but Real Madrid and the player agreed a new six-year deal in pre-season.

Despite signing a new six-year contract with Real Madrid in pre-season, Vinicius Junior’s transfer fee has fallen since the transfer window closed.

Arsenal were keen to sign the Brazil international this summer, with assistant coach Miguel Molina admitting Vinicius was one of his transfer targets during the international break. The club have agreed at all levels that if a deal is agreed they will work to make the move happen.

Due to the player’s reputation, he would command a comfortable transfer fee of over £100 million. However, two months after signing a new contract, his value dropped.

According to Transfermarkt, Vinicius was just shy of £120m during the summer. However, during this international break, that estimate dropped to £110 million.

That’s the lowest its shares have been in four years, but it was still on the rise then. His value reached £170 million at the end of 2024 and fell to £144 million in June 2025.

A further drop to £127m after the first few months of last season, down from just under £120m earlier this summer. However, the forward remained a key part of Brazil’s national team this break.

Vinicius played three friendlies in the first international break this season, facing Australia twice and India once. In their second match against the Socceroos, they were awarded two penalties.

Raphinha scored the first goal but was substituted before the second, suggesting Bruno Guimaraes was ready to step up. However, the Arsenal midfielder instead allowed Vinicius to convert from 12 yards.

After the match, the Madrid representative said: “Bruno Guimaraes is our penalty taker when Rafinha is not playing and I thought he would want to do it, but he knows that I need a bit of confidence right now, my teammates know that I need a bit of confidence right now. It’s hard to lose a World Cup and it’s never easy to come back.”

Guimaraes also confirmed what Vinicius had said and explained: “That was the reason [the penalty gave Vini confidence]. A lot was revealed after the penalty, but there is no nonsense here in the national team.

“In the World Championship [head coach Carlo] Ancelotti told me to take the penalty. Today he told Winnie to take him; Vinnie really needed to score and he took it very well.

“We have nothing to lose; we want the best for Brazil, we’re happy for it and it’s about getting on with it.”
