Portland Thorns forward Sophia Wilson received an extra game penalty for pulling the hair of an opponent after receiving a red card in Portland’s loss to Boston Legacy on Oct. 3.
The original red card made him unavailable for the October 18 match against Bay FC. He will now be ruled out on Oct. 23 against the North Carolina Courage. As a result, Wilson’s only remaining regular season game is Decision Day on Nov. 1 against the Houston Rockets.
It’s a big loss for the Thorns, who are currently seventh in the standings, just three points ahead of the ninth-placed Seattle Reign, who are currently out of a playoff spot. Wilson scored 13 goals and 5 assists in 27 games in 2026.
