“He’s a proper footballer” – Zinedine Zidane pays the Man City ace his biggest compliment

The head coach of the French national team Zinedine Zidane praised the star of “Manchester City” Ryan Cherki.

Zidane was the most elegant and technically gifted player of his era and when asked if he would like to play with Cherki, he replied:

“Yes, yes [I would have liked to play with him]he is a proper footballer. But that’s not all [his technical ability] – everyone knows [about] that. I’m interested in what he can do without the ball.”

“He can receive the ball between the lines; he makes incredible passes. When he plays two or three verticals, he can be effective immediately.”

How did Cherki perform under Zidane’s leadership?

The 23-year-old started his first game under Zidane on Friday night. He played the first 78 minutes of the 1-0 win over Turkey before being replaced by Eduardo Camavinga.

Cherki was deployed in a slightly deeper role and Zidane spoke after the game to praise the player for his performance both on and off the ball.

The midfielder is therefore likely to be deployed in a similar position when France face Belgium in their Nations League second leg on Monday evening.

How many Man City players are on international duty?

A total of 20 members of the team (including Cherki) were summoned. Ryan Ait-Nouri (Algeria), Geronimo Rulli, Enzo Fernandez (Argentina), Vitor Reis (Brazil), Mateo Kovacic, Josko Guardiol (Croatia), Mark Quehi, Nico O’Reilly, Elliot Anderson (England), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy), Ayyoubokudi (Italy). Dias (Portugal), Ndiaye country (Senegal) and Abdukodir Husanov (Uzbekistan) with national teams.

Rico Lewis (England U-21), Kaden Braithwaite, Ryan McAidoo (England U-19) and Floyd Samba (Germany U-19) play in the youth international game.
