Juventus are reportedly developing an ambitious 2027 free agent strategy around three experienced internationals: Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic, RB Leipzig left-back David Laum and Milan defender Fikayo Tomori. The Bianconeri have proven in recent years that they can be prepared for future deals in advance and Juventus hope to use the free signing of Jonathan David as a template. Missing out on Champions League qualification has strained the club’s finances, making free agent recruitment an even higher priority, even if it means starting negotiations before any actual transfer window.
Tomori’s situation is noteworthy given Frederic Massara’s history with the defender, who brought him to Milan from Chelsea. Tomori was reportedly pushed to the fringes of Milan’s plans by Ruben Amorim last summer, only to be welcomed back into the squad after failing to find a new club willing to take him on. Kovacic, meanwhile, has found himself marginalized at Manchester City and, despite being 32, his playing career is far from over after the club brought in a host of new players. He returns to familiar territory in Serie A, having played for Inter Milan from 2013 to 2015 before joining Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City from 2023.
Manchester United are also chasing Laum
Juventus are not the only team interested in Laum. Manchester United are also reportedly keen on the Leipzig left-back, with potential competition for his signing to begin once his contract situation becomes clearer. No rivals have been named for Kovacic or Tomori.
