So who will replace Matthias Jaissle at Newcastle United, Rafa Benitez or Sean Dyche?
No, Newcastle United haven’t got rid of their manager, at least not yet.
Apparently, there are plenty of Newcastle United fans who want this to happen. Today, if not before.
Of course, there is only one small problem.
If Matthias Jaissle were to leave, Newcastle United would need a new manager.
It’s all very well to let the person in charge go, but then you need to have a succession plan.
Yes, I know it’s none of your business, you’re just a fan, but be careful what you wish for.
Looking at what happened last season, it’s no surprise that Matthias Jaissle and 19 other Premier League managers are still in their jobs in 2026-27.
In total, eleven Premier League managers were sacked last season (replacements in brackets), with seven Premier League managers resigning from just three clubs in the 2025-26 season!
September 9, 2025 – Nuno leaves the forest (Ange Postecoglou)
27 September 2025 – Graham Potter leaves West Ham (Nuno)
18 October 2025 – Ange Postecoglou leaves the Forest (Sean Dyche)
2 November 2025 – Vitor Pereira leaves Wolves (Rob Edwards)
1 January 2026 – Enzo Maresca leaves Chelsea (Liam Rosenior)
5 January 2026 – Ruben Amorim leaves Man U (Michael Carrick)
11 February 2026 – Thomas Frank leaves Spurs (Igor Tudor)
February 12, 2026 – Sean Dyche leaves the forest (Vitor Pereira)
29 March 2026 – Igor Tudor leaves Spurs (Roberto de Zerbi)
22 April 2026 – Liam Rosenior leaves Chelsea (head of caretaker for the rest of the season)
30 April 2026 – Scott Parker leaves Burnley (caretaker manager for the rest of the season)
Funny Forest owners came even sooner this time and sacked their manager (Pereira) before the 2026-27 season started! Oliver Glasner, their fifth manager in less than 14 months, currently only has Sunderland to thank for keeping him and Forest off the bottom.
Oliver Glasner was certainly someone many Newcastle United fans thought would be a great choice for NUFC not long ago.
I guess with the Forest owner happily swinging the ax, at least it won’t be long before Glasner is back on the market.
Seriously though, who would Newcastle United get if they were to move Matthias Jaissle in the near future?
I can hear Newcastle United fans saying it’s obvious NUFC shouldn’t go for someone without Premier League experience in the summer.
Look at what happened last season as I listed above, many managers with Premier League experience were hired and sacked.
If Matthias Jaissle were to be sacked, I think Sean Dyche or similar would have Premier League experience and be keen on the job.
Sean Dyche was sacked on 9 January 2025 by Everton, having won just three of their last nineteen games in the 2024–25 season, just one point above the relegation zone.
On 21 October 2025, Sean Dyche was appointed manager of Nottingham Forest and lasted less than four months, Dyche was sacked in February 2026 after winning six of his 18 Premier League games in charge at the City Ground and Forest in the bottom four.
Rafa Benitez is another name I mentioned.
No one loves Rafa Benitez more than I do and he deserves our undying love and respect for what he did when he was doing Newcastle United a disservice. He gave us hope when there was nothing and did a brilliant job.
NUFC’s curse seems to have drained its spell.
Rafa Benitez’s managerial career has been a complete car crash in the seven years since Mike Ashley sacked him. Disasters at Dalian Professional, Everton, Celta Vigo and Panathinaikos. Not the pre-Newcastle United career when Rafa went to Valencia, Liverpool, Inter, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid…
The idea that Rafa Benitez will suddenly rediscover his magic wand on his return to St James’ Park is simple fantasy, if not fantasy football.
That doesn’t mean Matias Jaissle shouldn’t be fired, he doesn’t have a job for life.
But to give him just nine Premier League games after walking into a club in chaos 18 days before the start of the season.
Well, that’s not my idea of a smart move, and that’s before we even start looking at potential replacements, which are very likely.
