Jack Rudoni scored Coventry City’s first Premier League goal as they took a 1-0 lead over Newcastle United from the penalty spot at the CBS Arena.
Returning to the top flight for the first time since playing at Highfield Road in 2001, the Sky Blues picked up their first win of the season before the international break with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
They have yet to find a point in their first two home games, but completed that duck against the Magpies in the sixth minute, gifted by Rudoni through a mistake by Newcastle keeper Lukas Hornicek.
Horniček failed to collect a loose ball in the box under pressure from Ephron Mason-Clark and was beaten by Sidiki Cherif, who fell under the Czech international’s box as he tried to regroup.
The referee showed little hesitation in pointing the point and Rudoni made no mistake sending Hornicek the wrong way.
Harvey Barnes had the first chance for Newcastle, who started 11th in the Premier League but are looking to go fourth with a win, but Matias Fernandez-Pardo was denied an opportunity to equalize by good work down the left.
