Tony Romo’s tenure with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson at CBS Sports is over.
The network announced Friday that the two sides have mutually agreed to part ways.
“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward.
“JJ Watt will continue to partner with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson announcing the lead NFL team for the rest of the season. All other teams remain the same, including Ian Eagle, Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn.”
Romo was placed on indefinite leave by the network over the summer after he was arrested in Wisconsin on suspicion of driving under the influence. The arrest took place on July 23 in downtown Milwaukee and he was later issued three citations in connection with the incident: Operating under the influence, dangerous crossing and possession of an open container in a moving vehicle.
In September, he pleaded no contest to a charge of operating while intoxicated through a prosecuting attorney. He was found guilty and had his driving privileges revoked for six months and was ordered to complete an alcohol evaluation program and pay a $784 fine. If he does not pay the fine by November 2, his driver’s license will be revoked for one year.
In addition, the court ordered Romo to install an ignition interlock device “on any vehicle owned, operated or registered” in his name. This device will measure the amount of alcohol on his breath to confirm that he is not under the influence before starting the car.
As noted in a statement from CBS Sports, Romo was part of the NFL’s coverage team for nine seasons.
Update: Romo released the following statement regarding the speech:
