Tip of the day: Sunderland, AZ and Benfica will succeed in the Europa League

This flying lark is easy! Our Wednesday Tip of the Day is in and we’re three out of three this week.

Tonight we turn our attention to the Europa League and a competition where there is a huge difference in the quality of the teams.

We have identified teams and three-legged acca with more than one goal to win the competition.

The first is Sunderland’s trip to Portugal to face Torreense. The hosts provided one of the biggest shocks in European football last season by claiming the Portuguese Cup in the shadow of the Wearsiders’ 1973 FA Cup triumph. But the fact is they are a lower second division club and have won seven league games this season.

Sunderland haven’t set the world on fire in the Premier League so far, but they should be very good in this game.

Second is AZ Alkmaar to get past Hapoel Beer Sheva. AZ showed what a good side they are at the Light Stadium last month. They suffered their first Eredivisie defeat of the season at the weekend, going down 2-0 to title rivals Feyenoord, but must start again against a side who are fourth in the Israeli First Division.

And finally, we travel to Benfica to take on Celtic.

Lisbon may be one of Celtic’s favorite European cities, having been the site of their European Cup success in 1967, but it is unlikely to be a happy return.

Martin O’Neill’s men lost three games on the bounce before the international break but beat Motherwell at the weekend to calm the buzz around their manager.

But Benfica is a very different animal. Now under former Fulham boss Marco Silva, they have won nine of their last 10 games in all competitions and flexed their muscles with a 2-0 win at AC Milan in their Europa League opener.

Tip for Thursday (actions are from bet365 and correct as at 0830 on Thursday 15 October)

Sunderland beat Torreense and score 1+ goals in the match @ 1/2

AZ Hapoel Beer Sheva and scored 1+ goals in the match @ 2/5

Benfica beat Celtic and score 1+ goals in the match @ 3/10

Combined odds 1.73/1
