Caithness have won their first ever ScottishPower Highlands & Islands league title

Caithness Ladies lifted the ScottishPower Highlands & Islands League trophy for the first time after an 11-1 victory over Fort William in Thurso in their historic final match of the season on Saturday.

Top scorer Shannon Campbell scored five goals to take his tally to over 40 for the season, completing an incredible campaign in which they won all their league games and conceded just 10 goals.

The team lost 1-0 to Shetland in the Scottish Power League Cup final two weeks ago.

This is the club’s first silverware since its inception 16 years ago. Second place was decided on Sunday, with Clachnacuddin securing the three points by finishing second with a 3-2 win against Sutherland.

It meant Fort William finished an impressive third in their first season in senior competitive women’s football.

In the Barclays Championship, Bonnyrigg Rose staged a thrilling second-half comeback to end Elgin City’s unbeaten home record in Scotland’s third tier.

The visitors had the better of the first 20 minutes, with Rose midfielder and captain Kazia Stevens hitting the post early on, but then Elgin forward Mia Lundberg found the net with a chip and Sarah Westwood doubled the hosts’ lead ten minutes later to give them a two-goal cushion. However, Stevens converted a penalty to reduce the deficit following a Marika Bereznaka handball before Stevens equalized from a direct corner in the 55th minute.

Despite losing goalkeeper Denise Dudgeo to a header, Bonnyrigg put their foot on the accelerator and Khya McGurk scored a clinical four and Jen Brown added another after a driving run to give the visitors a 7-2 win.

Rossvale maintained their lead of the table with a 4-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, an Emily Dalgetty hat-trick saw Forfar Farmington beat Ayr United 8-2 at home and East Fife beat Dryburgh 2-1 at Methil. Dunipace and Stirling University played out a 4-4 draw.
