The national soccer federation has postponed all 24 Copa del Rey games scheduled for Wednesday because of a train crash that killed more than 60 people in central Spain.

Clubs across the country have sent messages of solidarity and support to victims of the crash, which left dozens injured after a high-speed train plowed into the back of another parked on the tracks.

“Shocked by the tragic rail accident,” the federation said.

He said he ordered the postponement of the games “in solidarity with the victims”.

“The entire Spanish football community is united in grief over this tragedy and has presented itself to the authorities to help the victims of this devastating accident,” the federation said.

“Real Madrid CF would like to express its deep sorrow regarding the tragic railway accident,” the club said in a statement. “The club expresses its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and also wishes for compassion and solidarity with all those injured and victims of this terrible accident.”

Barcelona also “expresses its deepest condolences to the victims.”

Atletico Madrid said it joined “the grief of the victims of the terrible railway accident this morning”.

“Atletico”, “Barcelona” and “Real Madrid” are among the teams that did not enter the tournament until the 1/8 finals.

The federation said it will present a revised tournament schedule later. Five top-flight clubs would play in the first round on Wednesday: Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Valencia, Alaves and Levante.

Thursday’s first round matches have not been postponed. Games were also played on Tuesday.
