Women’s football fans across Scotland are being encouraged to nominate their heroes ahead of November’s ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Football Awards to recognize talent and commitment at all levels of women’s and girls’ football.
Run by Scottish Women’s Football (SWF), shortlisted by the public and awarded by a select panel of judges, these prestigious awards will culminate in a spectacular gala event in front of a star-studded audience at Hampden Park on the 28th.c november
ScottishPower are once again the event’s title sponsors, with the SundayPost returning as media partner.
Awards such as Highlands & Islands Player of the Year and Sunday Post Volunteer of the Year recognize key heroes, while top stars will compete for SWPL Player and Coach of the Year in an event that celebrates success and recognizes achievement both on and off the pitch.
Fans will once again have the opportunity to nominate a referee who goes above and beyond to support players and the women’s and girls’ game in Scotland, and thanks to a partnership between SWF and Walking Football Scotland, for the first time, the awards will go to a women’s Walking Football team.
There will also be an induction into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame on the night.
Aileen Campbell, CEO of Scottish Women’s Football, commented: “Our annual celebration of women’s football in Scotland is going from strength to strength and it’s fantastic that we can also recognize the achievements of the referees and walk-ons. With new support from ScottishPower, it’s going to be a fantastic night as always.
“We have stars and future stars in our game, as well as many unsung heroes. From Premier League role models to volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes, giving girls opportunities to play the game they love. Don’t forget to recognize these achievements by nominating on SWF now.”
Matt Ramsey, CEO of Walking Football Scotland, commented: “The ScottishPower SWF Awards is such a big night for the women’s game, so I’m delighted that we can celebrate the success of Walking Football Scotland at the event. Walking Football makes a real difference to people’s lives, so it will be great to see these achievements also recognised.”
ScottishPower chief executive Keith Anderson said: “Following the renewal and expansion of our game-changing partnership with SWF and SWPL earlier this year, we are proud to once again support such a great celebration of the success and achievements of women and girls across the country.
“The awards celebrate the people who develop the game in Scotland, from players and coaches to referees, volunteers and those who work behind the scenes to help the game continue to grow.
“When nominations are open, we’re calling on fans, clubs and communities across the country to recognize those who are making a difference and help inspire the next generation of women and girls in football.”
Nominations are open until October 16 and are made via SWF’s website HERE
