“Arsenal” striker Viktor Gyokeres scored another goal and became the center of attention of the Swedish national team.
Viktor Gyokeres was Sweden’s star on Thursday as he scored again in a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina. The 28-year-old has scored in six consecutive Nations League games – a record.
He put Sweden in the lead in the 61st minute, and the opponent counterattacked with 10 minutes remaining. The Arsenal forward could have scored, but his first-time finish was disallowed after a VAR review.
Gyökeres is yet to find the net for Mikel Arteta this season, but his record for Sweden, particularly in the Nations League, speaks for itself. Goals against Estonia, Slovakia and Azerbaijan in Nations League games in October and November 2024, and goals against Romania, Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina during this international break ensure he now has an impressive record.
The Swedish media’s verdict stands, and it echoes the sentiments of many Arsenal fans who question why Gökeres can often star for his country but often toils for the Gunners. Here, we take a closer look at what the Arsenal man had to say about his performance on Friday night.

SVT paid special attention to the quick kick that gave Sweden a point. They wrote: “Viktor Gyökeres also had the ball in his goal, but it was ruled out after a VAR review.
“But Gokeres would get his revenge in the second half. Just after the hour mark, he put Sweden ahead when his shot powerfully hit the roof of the net.”
Football Scanalen
Outlet rated the Swede four out of five. They added: “Victor Gokeres made it 1-0 after a hard and sharp finish. Earlier he came close to scoring when he put the ball in the net but was ruled out.”
Elsewhere, they wrote: “The question marks have not gone away since the striker made the international cut and scored in all three Nations League games.
“Viktor Gokeres made history on Friday. He has now scored in six consecutive Nations League matches, a feat that no other player has achieved. Gokeres previously shared the record with Slovenia’s Benjamin Sesko and Serbia’s Aleksandar Mitrovic who scored in five consecutive matches.”
Express
Expressen have highlighted how important the Arsenal striker is to their chances. They said: “Viktor Gokeres played 76 minutes against Romania, 89 minutes against Poland and 90 minutes against Bosnia in added time. All in one week.
“Previously, in the autumn, playing time at Arsenal was limited, but the goal-scoring form did not have to wait. A goal in every game and now the only question is how much can he do when Sweden face Romania again on Monday?”
Gothenburg Post
The publication acknowledged his struggles for Arsenal but highlighted his importance to his country. They said: “Six goals in a row in the Nations League. 28-year-old Viktor Gokeres is enjoying himself for Sweden.
Despite a difficult season at Arsenal, Gyokeres made a good start for the national team. The striker led Sweden’s attack during this intense international training camp.
“Qökeres has scored in all three matches this autumn – and in fact he has now scored in six consecutive Nations League matches. The 28-year-old was a constant threat in Sweden’s attacking play.”
