Man City are reportedly sending scouts to watch FC Twente centre-back Ruud Nijstad.

TEAMtalk They claim Cityzens are “among many Premier League clubs” following teenager‘s progress this season.

Rivals Manchester United, Newcastle, Brentford, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Everton are also believed to be keeping tabs on Nijstad.

At 6ft 5 and left-handed, the 18-year-old has a unique profile that has caught City’s attention.

However, Nijstad is not expected to move until the end of the season as FC Twente already ruled out a sale during the January transfer window.

What should Man City fans know about the player?

The youngster came through the DETO and FC Twente academies before making his senior debut for the latter in a 2-1 win against Heracles Almelo a year ago.

Nijstad established himself as a regular starter in the second half of last season, making a total of 38 first-team appearances.

Since the start of the 2026/27 season, the defender has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of FC Twente’s league games, featuring in the Europa League qualifiers and the Conference League.

Where would Nijstad be based at the Etihad?

Director of football Hugo Viana is constantly scouring the world for the most promising young talents and the Dutchman is clearly one to watch.

Head coach Enzo Maresca does not need another central midfielder at the moment. The Italian could call upon the likes of Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Josko Guardiol, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, but Nijstad could be a target should one of those players decide to leave the Etihad.
