When most professional athletes are traded mid-season, they are left to fend for themselves.

Of course, veteran players who have been in the same league will know the other players. They will reconnect with old teammates, who have been traded or moved on to new adventures. However, for most young players, they are still navigating their league and trying to bond with athletes their own age or even experienced, veteran teammates.

Mid-season trades are scary for any player. But for Lilly Reale and Sarah Schupansky — both just 23 years old — they landed in the same place just two months apart.

Reale first arrived at his new team, Boston Legacy, in July. In retrospect, Reale being the first of the two benefited from Schupansky’s adaptation to Boston two months later in September.

Boston is Reale’s hometown. The defender grew up in Hingham in the Greater Boston area. After his collegiate career at UCLA, he moved closer to home with a move to NJ/NY Gotham FC. The move from the New York area to Boston was easy for Reale to adjust.
