Report: Juventus target Folarin Balogu as winter signing

Folarin Balogan stayed in France for the first half of the Ligue 1 season but is reportedly set to leave for Italy this winter.

Italian outlet Tuttosport reported on Tuesday that Juventus are targeting Balogu as a potential winter signing. Balogu has two seasons left on his current Monaco deal, which is scheduled to expire in June 2028.

Balogun was originally set to join English Premier League club Everton in September, but reportedly walked away from the club’s training center after undergoing a medical. Everton were concerned about Balogu’s medical history after the FIFA World Cup, believing the American forward was not 100%.

Balogun later turned down the move and returned to Monaco, where he has been reduced to just four games so far this season. A minor injury prevented Balogu from starting the campaign, after which he was left out of the Ligue 1 side’s UEFA Conference League squad.

The 25-year-old joined Monaco from Arsenal ahead of the 2023-24 season and has since scored 31 goals in 95 appearances. Balogu’s 19 goals last season earned him Monaco’s Player of the Season award, and he then scored three goals for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the World Cup.

A move for Balogun would give the Bianconeri a boost in the forward position, while also linking him up with international team-mate Weston McKennie. McKennie is in the middle of his seventh season with Juventus and remains an important player in the squad.

Monaco is 4th in Ligue 1 after 8 matches, 2 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
