Moses Itauma could be one win away from another world title.
The 21-year-old highly rated Itauma faced Filip Hrgovic for the IBF belt in August.
This was Itauma’s first world title fight. After starting so strong, he tired, opened up and was stopped by Hrgovic in nine rounds.
Promoter Frank Warren plans to bring Itauma back for another world title shot in January.
“It’s going to be a decent fight. He’s got to be with somebody who’s going to test him,” Warren said. Sky Sports.
“When you’re down, any comeback fight is a risky fight. He’s going to want to go out there with something to prove. We want to see him with someone reasonable for a comeback fight and he wants to get back into the mix.
“He’s going to have to come back and show what he’s made of.”
After that, Itauma will target the world champion. In addition to promoting Warren Itauma, new IBF champion Hrgovic represents WBC heavyweight titleholder Agit Kabayel as well as WBO champion Daniel Dubois.
“He wants to get back in the mix, so he’s going to be very active next year,” Warren said of Itauma. “You can’t interfere directly.
“He could fight any of them. Because if he wins, I think he’ll be back in the top half of the rankings.”
Warren Itauma added of the defeat: “Hrgovic was able to understand the penalty. Even [Itauma] he blew, he was still shooting, even when he was caught, he was still trying to retreat. It ticked other boxes as far as I was concerned.”
Hrgovic will next face mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez. This could be a home fight for Hrgovic in Croatia.
“We’re looking at putting him on the pitch in Croatia, we’re working hard to make it happen, that’s his dream,” Warren said.
Sanchez’s manager Mike Borao informed about it Sky Sports: “We are trying to make it happen in the first quarter of 2027.
“So far so good. Frank [Sanchez] is sure to win and revives the chance to become the world champion.
“Hrgovic is elite and will not be an easy opponent, but I expect Frank to do the job.”
