Kofi Adams has rejected calls to be sacked over the World Cup visa scandal

Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren is expected to take charge of Ghana’s Black Stars on an interim basis as part of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Somalia in November.

According to multiple reports, the Swedish tactician will lead an interim technical team that will also include Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko and current Black Stars assistant Godwin Attram.

The appointment follows the departure of Carlos Queiroz following Ghana’s poor start to their qualifying campaign. The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Cote d’Ivoire and surrendered a two-goal lead in a 4-2 home loss to Gambia to remain bottom of Group C without a point.

Björkegren, who has coached the women’s national team since January 2025 and led them to third place at the women’s Africa Cup of Nations, brings first-hand familiarity with the senior men’s set-up. He has previously been linked with an assistant role ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup while continuing his stint with the Black Queens.

Attram already serves as assistant to the Black Stars, offering continuity, while Tanko has previous experience with the senior team and the Black Meteors (Ghana’s U-23 side).

The interim arrangement is designed to ensure the squad is ready for home and away matches against Somalia scheduled for the November international window, while the Ghana Football Association and a five-man search committee continue their search for a permanent coach.

The GFA is expected to make the announcement officially.
