Hampshire and Scotland bowler Brad Wheal has retired

Hampshire and Scotland seamer Brad Will has retired from professional cricket after a series of injuries.

Will, 30, has scored 51 wickets in 44 matches in his ten-year international career and featured in four T20 World Cups, most recently in India earlier this year.

He has also played for Hampshire since 2015, helping them win the One Day Trophy in 2018 and the T20 Blast in 2022.

“I loved my time at Hampshire and representing Scotland as a professional cricketer, but unfortunately recurring injuries forced my hand and I have decided to retire from cricket,” Wheal said.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but I’m OK with it. I’ve had stress fractures in all four of my back and recently had knee surgery – and as a result my body can’t cope with the demands of bowling faster.

“Having the opportunity to play for Scotland will always mean a lot to me and my family and it’s something I will always be incredibly proud of.

“I’ve been lucky enough to represent Scotland at four World Cups and have had some incredible experiences along the way. I’ve made lifelong friends and shared a dressing room with some great people – and those are probably the things I’ll miss the most.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all my teammates, coaches and support staff that I’ve worked with over the years. I’d also like to thank all the Scotland fans for their support over the years, especially those who have traveled the world to support us. It always means a lot to have them behind us.

“It’s a big part of my career and something I’ll always look back on with great memories. I’ll certainly be watching the boys closely and supporting them from afar.”
