Alexander Isak says joining Liverpool from Newcastle last summer was an “easy decision” despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his move.
The Swedish striker moved to Anfield on deadline day in September 2025 for a UK-record £125 million after missing pre-season.
Isaac has previously claimed promises made to him at Newcastle had been “broken” but insists he has never regretted his decision to leave the club.
“Liverpool is a big club and everything about the club is very clear,” Isaac told BBC Sport.
“And the ambition and willingness of the club to bring me in. That’s a big part of it.”
The 26-year-old struggled for goals in his first season at Liverpool and suffered a broken leg that ruled him out from December to April.
When asked if he regretted the move during that time, Isak said: “No, never. I would never think of it that way.”
Isaac looking forward to injury
Isaac only made 22 appearances for Liverpool last season, playing a total of 1,032 minutes, but has matched his previous performance. Premier League Three goals in just four games this season.
He said the experience of dealing with a long-term injury helped him focus on the future rather than dwelling on what happened.
“[The leg break] It’s tough. Anyone who has been injured for a long time will know that,” Isaac said.
“But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and you feel good, you don’t really tend to look back because it doesn’t really do you any good.
“So I’m just looking ahead and feeling really optimistic and excited about this season and what it can bring to us.”
World Cup gives Isaac a timely boost
Isaac scored one goal and provided three assists, helping Sweden reach the last 32 of the World Cup, where they were eliminated by France.
The tournament also gives him a chance to build up his fitness and regain his rhythm after a frustrating season at club level.
“Playing for your country in the World Cup is a dream for most people,” Isaac said.
“The World Cup was perfect because of the injuries last season. I had a period where I could play and get rhythm and form.
“The most important thing is that it’s been an enriching experience, so it’s the perfect choice to come back here for pre-season and start the new season.”
