Ipswich Town Women are on an “inevitable” trajectory for promotion to the Women’s Super League, according to club captain Maria Boswell.
Tractor Girls finished ninth in WSL2 last season after promotion to second in 2025 and were fourth in 2021., external
Under former men’s team player David Wright, who was appointed in April, the Blues are third after five games of the 2026-27 campaign.
“I don’t think there’s any ceiling that we can go on and achieve. For me, I just see [promotion to the WSL] inevitably,” Boswell, 23, told BBC Radio Suffolk.
“The way the club is going, I don’t see any other option this year or in five years.
“I think this club will naturally belong and fall with the intention of the owners and the investment we’ve made and where they see the club. I don’t see it happening any other way and hopefully when it does I’ll be a part of it.”
Boswell joined the Ipswich academy in 2019 and was named captain in 2023 at the age of 20.
The club started this season with draws against Nottingham Forest and Southampton before winning back-to-back league games against Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United.
They host second-placed Sunderland at Colchester Community Stadium on Sunday.
“We’ve brought in such good players and I think looking around, we kind of finished the pre-season and decided there’s no reason not to push for it. [promotion to the WSL]said Boswell.
“I think it’s about coming up with it in the back of your mind, but not letting it get too far ahead of you or cloud everything you’re doing.
“It’s just about coming to training with the intention of going to every training session and then hopefully coming out on Sunday and putting in performances that get us the three points, which we’re doing at the moment, but it’s not taken for granted that it comes naturally.
