Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin talks about the future of bright young Chelsea winger Estevao, who is increasingly unhappy with his lack of playing time.

Nevin predicted that Estevao would leave before long, given how difficult it would be for him to establish himself in the first team.

Estevao may have to leave Chelsea to fulfill his potential

Estevao is training for Chelsea

“When he came to Chelsea and played a few games, I thought what a fantastic, brilliant player he is. I absolutely, absolutely love him. And he will be a great player, but probably not for Chelsea,” Nevin was quoted as saying by Goal.com.

“You don’t exactly have to leave now, go now. But your career only lasts for a certain amount of time and you need a lot of games under your belt. And when you’re 20, 21, you want a few hundred.

“But his big problem is the system. The system and the squad you get there will be limited. You might end up with 30 games at the end of the season, but some of them will be 15 minutes. And that’s not what you need. You need constant play all the time.

“So I wouldn’t be shocked if he looked elsewhere to get a game.”

Unfortunately, it’s hard to disagree with any of this. The absence of European football is largely a boon for team management, but in this case it is potentially a disaster.
