Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs leading the race for the potential transfer of one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young talents.
As first revealed by the Daily Briefing, the player in question is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Can Uzun, a 20-year-old striker who has drawn comparisons to Dimitar Berbatov after some top-class displays in Germany in recent years.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their attack and I understand that Uzun’s agency 11WINS have spoken to Uzun as they also explore a move for another client, Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi.
It is known that “Aston Villa”, “Brighton” and “Everton” are watching the player of the Turkish national team, “Borussia Dortmund”, “Milan” and “Napoli” have watched him in the past.
Eintracht Frankfurt know they have a big talent on their hands and with him under contract until 2029, they are in a strong negotiating position.
One of the sources confirmed to me that Arsenal had some initial contact with Can Uzun. “I can’t say for sure if he’s at the top of the list, but they like him and they’re not alone. Eintracht Frankfurt are aware of the interest, but will signal his €60m release clause.”
Needless to say, sources familiar with Arsenal’s transfer plans suspect the club will pay quite a bit of money for the relatively unproven youngster, so it won’t go anywhere concrete just yet.
Waiting another year or so could make sense for the Gunners as they will have a closer look at how Uzu is developing, while the fact that he is nearing the end of his contract puts pressure on Eintracht to lower their demands.
It should also be noted that, for now at least, the player is not trying to leave his current club, but if the interest of big names like Arsenal becomes more concrete, he thinks he will turn his head.
