The US Men’s National Team made it four in a friendly over the September-October international break, with several players leading the way for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Julian Hall and Sebastian Berhalter were among the signings of the last window, setting the standard for what Pochettino hopes will be a positive period in the 2030s. Both players were impressive as the Americans recorded their first four-match winning streak since 2024-25 with wins over Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada.
Hall was one of 13 players to make their senior debut over the past two weeks, setting several records along the way. One of the seasoned veterans on the roster, Berhalter was one of the USMNT’s most creative players on the offensive side of the field.
Malik Tillman, Mathis Albert and Alex Freeman
Here’s a closer look at the USMNT winners from a quartet of matches played during the September-October window:
Julian Hall
18-year-old Julian Hall could be making his senior debut during the window, but he looks like a seasoned pro.
Hall scored in three consecutive matches against Peru, Chile and Mexico. The New York Red Bulls forward also had an assist and came close to adding to his tally in the final match of the window against Canada.
Hall’s versatility, strength and pace were on display as he gave USMNT fans a solid glimpse of his long-term potential with the team.
Sebastian Berhalter
Sebastian Berhalter is quickly becoming one of the leading creators of the USMNT.
Berhalter continued his big role under Pochettino, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the top four. The veteran midfielder scored against Chile and Peru, while also providing an assist in each match to tie Hall with four goals during the window.
Not only does Berhalter bring strong defensive work speed to the field, but he continues to show his quality on the ball.
It will be interesting to see if Berhalter can carry his international form to club level with Middlesbrough this autumn/winter.
Malik Tillman
One of the USMNT’s leading performers at the FIFA World Cup last summer, Malik Tillman doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Tillman recorded a pair of goals in four matches and remained a key creative weapon in the final third. After scoring the decisive goal against Peru from the penalty spot, Tillman pulled on his number against Mexico in a memorable 3-0 win over El Tri.
Tillman’s club form may not be where he wants it to be at the moment, but his international form remains on another level.
Mathis Albert
At 17 years old, Mathis Albert has a bright and long future ahead of him.
Albert scored his first senior USMNT goal and also had one penalty kick in four matches, becoming one of the youngest goal scorers in program history. The Borussia Dortmund forward’s lone start of the window came against Canada, where he showed strong work rate on and off the ball.
Along with Cavan Sullivan, Hall, and Adri Mehmeti, Albert showed that the next generation of the USMNT could be very scary for years to come.
Alex Freeman
Alex Freeman’s playing time doesn’t look like it’s going to decrease anytime soon.
Villarreal’s 22-year-old defender started three of the four games in a 1-0 win over Canada with one assist. Freeman has remained a consistent defender in the USMNT backline, extending his current appearance streak to 25 matches.
Freeman remains the USMNT’s No. 1 back heading into the November window, a strong testament to his work rate and improvement on both sides of the field.
Who else do you think impressed these five players in the group stage? Do you expect all five of these players to be part of the November CONCACAF Nations League window?
