On 27 September 2026, Kings Football Academy Abuja declared themselves champions of the AMAC Commonwealth Cup, ten days after announcing their semi-final match against Youthful Ballers FC. Small trophies like these are often what parents hear of a football academy in Abuja. The hardest part is finding out which ones are real, active, and honest about what.

We’ve compared each name below with their website, social posts or recent press. Unpublished fees are noted. Nothing is assumed.

Academies by region

Derby Football Academy, Riverplate Park

Founded in Jos in 2011, Derby moved to Abuja in 2021 and trains at the Turf Arena at Riverplate Park, according to a Daily Trust feature published in December 2025. No FCT academy was clearer. The eight-week half term costs N170,000 (about $128) for two sessions per week. Additional sessions cost more. The speeches are also real. In October 2025, the academy announced the signing of winger Joseph Eghenolohor with Red Star. Serbian newspaper Novosti followed him to Derby via Swedish side IFK Kalmar, whose sporting director Peter Schwård said in explaining the move: “Josif is a footballer we noticed in Nigeria.” In July 2026, Derby added that U18 captain Adetola Quirib is joining HJK Helsinki.

Wing of Eagles, Gwarinpa

Eagles Wing trains at Evelyn’s Fitness and Recreation Center located at 3rd Avenue Junction, Gwarinpa, with branches in Warri and Asaba. Daily Trust reported N450,000 registration and N60,000 (about $338 and $45) monthly fees with players aged between two and 27 years old. On its website, the academy announced new season registration in September 2025 and an Easter camp in March 2026 and reported more than 50 active players.

No names of professional graduates.

AS Roma Academy Abuja, National Stadium

Roma opened its first African academy in Abuja in February 2021, working with Garden City Panthers FC. It is located at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and hosts boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 years. Its trial page lists non-residential N20,000 and with it N150,000 (about US$15 and 113) and offers a full-year scholarship to outstanding players. The team faced Sajeh Football Academy in the N-Youth League Cup in April 2026, losing 2-1. Training fees? Ask directly.

FOSLA Academy, Karshi

Founded in 2010 by former NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi, FOSLA mixes school with football in the Garshi side of the FCT. Daily Trust put the scholarship holders at over 70 per cent of the students and named Onuche Ogbelu and Benjamin Mohammed as graduates who played abroad. Payments are not published. Call the school.

CAMPpro FK

Founded in 2019 and officially registered in 2024, CAMPpro is an Abuja development club in Nationwide League One. The Guardian reported the signing of 20-year-old Jofrank Istifanus in August 2025 after four goals and four assists in 13 NLO games with Nasarawa United. Fees and trials: not published.

Kings Football Academy Abuja

The Kings announce open trials on Saturdays at 9am at the Bwari Township Stadium and have an online viewing form. It does not name any professional alumni and shows no fees; contact route is WhatsApp or email on its website.

Before you pay anyone

First the paperwork.

Ask if the academy is affiliated with FCT FA. Ask if players are registered with FIFA Connect. Keep receipts for every naira. According to Daily Trust, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau warned that “any academy that does not meet the standards will not be recognized by the federation”. This makes the status worth checking out.

Then think about agents. On 29 September 2026, FIFA warned parents about bogus agents making “unfounded and unrealistic promises” about trials and contracts, urging families to check that any agent has a valid FIFA license and to never send money for trials. This happens. Sahara Reporters reported in September 2026 that a family paid N4.7 million to a special FIFA agent for a training program and club contract in Egypt, only to discover that “there is no football court waiting for them in Egypt”.

Sports lawyer Abiodun Sonaike said in a June 2026 News Agency of Nigeria report that impostors “cloned the social media accounts of real agents” to appear credible. Double check.

Our vision

Abuja’s scene is a mix of weekend training centres, a school-academy model, a European franchise and two outfits, Derby and CAMPpro, the last verifiable outlets in professional football.

Apply a test.

If the academy can’t name a player in progress, show where he trains or write down his fees, walk away. See our guide to the best football academies in Nigeria for comparison, plus regional reviews of Lagos and Kano state.
