Man U are sweating on the fitness of striker Benjamin Cesko. The 23-year-old has been ruled out once again and manager Michael Carrick hinted that we will learn more ahead of his side’s game against Bournemouth this weekend.
“We’re really hoping to get a clear picture,” Carrick said ahead of United’s Champions League game against Como on Tuesday.
“I’m not trying to delay it. Hopefully the next time we talk, maybe not tomorrow, but by the end of the week we’ll have something a little clearer. It’s a little bit of work going on right now, so we’ll see what comes out of that.”
Whispers in the newspapers write that the tall striker could be out of action for up to four months.
With Sesko out for a long time, Carrick was forced to turn to alternatives
If Cesko is out, Carrick isn’t completely out of options – he’s just out of good options. The current crop of forwards have shown some ability at some point without performing consistently.
At the end of last season, both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha looked like they would finally fulfill their potential and become the consistent strikers that Man U needed.
Could the much-maligned Joshua Zirkzee, who almost left for Everton on deadline day, be a surprise hero for the Red Devils in Sesko’s extended absence? It seems unlikely, but there may not be many other options.
