Hakan Calhanoglu was not included in Christian Chivu’s squad for Inter’s 5-3 comeback victory over Udinese on Monday night, and reports on Tuesday suggested he is also likely to miss this weekend’s top-flight clash with Roma.
Calhanoglu doubtful for Roma vs. Inter Milan
Goals from Carlos Augusto, Nicolo Varela, Marcus Thuram, Pio Esposito and Ange-Euan Bonny helped Inter Milan beat Udinese 5-3 at the San Siro on Monday night, although the Nerazzurri fell 2-0 behind after 16 minutes.
Chivu fielded a midfield trio of Varela, Piotr Zielinski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan that night, before bringing on Curtis Jones and Aleksandar Stankovic from the bench in the second half.
Calhanoglu was not named to the matchday squad due to adductor fatigue.
According to the latest update Gazzetta dello Sport Calhanoglu will undergo further assessment this afternoon on Tuesday morning, but as things stand, there is a good chance he will not be able to play against Roma this Saturday.
Inter Milan also lost England international John Stones to injury against Udinese on Monday night and he is also expected to miss this weekend’s game with Roma. He is likely to return after the international break.
Saturday’s game against Roma is a crucial clash in the 2026-27 Serie A title race, as the Nerazzurri and Roma are the only two teams in the division still with a 100% winning record. The match ends at 17:00 (BST) on Saturday at the Olympic Stadium.
