Arsenal have reportedly been linked with Real Madrid striker Rodrigo Goss after missing out on his teammate Vinicius Junior this summer.
The Gunners had previously targeted Rodrygo, but any move has been put on hold due to his serious injury.
However, the Brazil international is now close to returning and Arsenal appear to be in touch with those close to the player.
This is according to a report team talkindicating that Arsenal are still interested in Rodrygo as a replacement for Vinicius on the left side of their attack.
Should Arsenal keep trying to sign Rodrygo?
Arsenal fans may have mixed feelings about Rodrygo being linked with him as he isn’t on the same level as the likes of Vinicius or even other summer targets such as Morgan Rodgers, Bradley Bakela and Julian Alvarez.
The 25-year-old undoubtedly has quality and has proven himself to be an important player for Real Madrid, but whether he is truly the type of player who can take Arsenal to the next level is open to question.
There are certainly legitimate concerns about Rodrygo’s fitness after such a long spell as well, as the AFC’s current crop of players have had enough issues with multiple injury absences.
Arsenal signing Vinicius would have been a hugely exciting announcement, but that’s not going to happen, so pursuing what some might consider a less-than-good version seems like an odd strategy.
It will be interesting to see how Rodrigo performs once he is fully fit and playing again, but it doesn’t seem to make much sense for Arsenal to make him a priority at the moment.
The north London giants should have a massive scouting network that might be able to help them find the next big thing if they can’t convince a true superstar like Vinnie to come on board.
