Wolves emerged victorious despite a poor overall performance, with Sheffield United offering few attacking chances but applying physical pressure. The focus of player ratings is on Djiga and Gomez, while the evaluations of Andre and Jimenez are mixed.
Wolves VS Sheffield United Ratings
Only saw this game on TV so apologies to anyone who thinks differently. Two very average looking teams that struggled in the game. However, victory is victory.
Sheffield did little offensively but were very physical and Wolves struggled to cope with their pressure. Sadly, this may be something the Wolves have to deal with in the coming weeks.
Rating
Sa-6 was never really in trouble and did the little work he had to do quite comfortably.
Jackson – 6 It was a quiet game after last week’s nightmare and he looked as comfortable as you’ve ever seen him.
Krejci – 5 Luckily he didn’t get sacked when he took possession for the second time and knocked down his opponent. Otherwise, the performance was solid despite mild opposition.
Djiga – 7 is the best of the massive defensive improvements. Astonishingly, he went from being disliked to being a key figure in the defence, on loan.
Bueno – 6 Not sure why he’s so disliked on social media and his offense – his stronger hands – is dismissed so casually. Completely qualified for this level.
Andre – 6 Unusually, I’m not as impressed with him today as the media and others are. Perhaps because the Wolves are more comfortable, his strong motor and defense aren’t as obvious on display. But to me, his ball-handling is still not as sharp as I’d like, and I have to admit that, as others have pointed out before, he occasionally makes the mistake of overplaying the ball.
Munetsi – 6 Should have scored from a great move which gave him a clear shot near the penalty spot. Hard working but lacking in imposing qualities.
Lopez – 6 Not nearly as dominant as in previous games, but still looked good.
Mane – 6 Another guy who gets far more criticism than he deserves. There’s no doubt he’s still green, after all, he’s still young and inexperienced and may need to improve his decision-making, but he’s one of those players who can open up a defense with a little magic. A penalty should have been awarded but unfortunately the referee did not take more of the decision and allowed Sheffield to be more physical than is allowed in the Premier League.
Armstrong – 4 Sadly, he plays a position that he simply cannot be expected to play. There was little involvement, although it was a low-quality game and whoever played up front for Wolves struggled to make their mark.
Gomez-7 is Wolves’ most creative player and combines this with a very high work rate and a strong competitive edge.
Substitute
James – 5 didn’t have the impact he had in other games.
Jimenez – 5 scored the winning goal, but missed 2 other good opportunities. Glimpses of return to form – he’s in danger of missing two chances – but Wolves need him to step up ASAP!
Trippier – 6 played a big role in the goal and should be a huge boost to the team going forward.
Doyle – 6 Impressive again. Good and solid ball control. I may have been too harsh on him early in the season due to his lack of speed and physicality.
Totti – 6 Didn’t do anything stupid but Sheffield didn’t offer much going forward anyway.
