Wolves legend Coady retires aged 33

The legendary Wolverhampton football player Conor Coady ended his career at the age of 33.

The former Wolves captain, who won 10 England caps, has been linked with a move into coaching after leaving Wrexham in September without a club.

After starting as a promising midfielder in Liverpool’s academy, he first moved on loan to Sheffield United in 2013 before signing for Huddersfield Town at the end of that season.

But he enjoyed much of his success at Wolves after being converted to centre-back by then boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

He also played on loan at Everton, Leicester City, Wrexham and Charlton last season in his 503-game club career.

Coady was signed by then Wolves boss Kenny Jackett in 2015 and played a major role in the club’s promotion back to the Premier League in 2018.

He was the captain of the “Wolves” team, which twice finished seventh and also reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

In total, he made 317 Wolves appearances, scoring 22 goals – seven in his career – for club and country – before being loaned out to Everton in 2022.

He then joined Leicester for £8.5m in July 2023, with Everton opting not to complete the £4.5m deal to convert his season-long loan into a permanent move.

Coady then moved on to an ill-fated short spell at Wrexham, which ended prematurely before Nathan Jones’ latest move to The Valley to join Charlton.

He has already been linked with an assistant manager role at League One side Barnsley.
