Roberto De Zerbi has urged Luca Williams-Barnett to call up Tottenham’s first XI for Leeds

Luca Williams-Barnett is expected to be part of Tottenham’s matchday squad to face Leeds this weekend – but should the talented teenager start?

Roberto De Zerbi has been urged to consider starting Tottenham wonderkid Luke Williams-Barnett against Leeds United on Saturday.

The 18-year-old made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace and certainly made an impact in front of the fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Minutes into the game for Mathys Tel, the Spurs academy graduate showed his pace and skill as he slipped past two Palace defenders to Mohamed Qudus, who really should have scored.

Williams-Barnett was described as a “huge talent” by De Zerbi after the match and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard insisted the teenager was “one to watch”.

Tottenham now take on Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday as they made it three consecutive Premier League victories with victory over Palace. Williams-Barnett is likely to be in the squad at the very least and De Zerbi will have to decide whether to start the youngster or bring him off the bench if necessary.

It is unclear at this stage whether De Zerbi will make his full debut for Williams-Barnett, although the teenager has been seen training with the rest of the first team at Hotspur Way this week.

“Nothing changes for me when I’m working, when I have young, talented players,” De Zerbi said of the teenager. “I thought it was the right moment for him because it’s his first game in the Premier League. But his qualities, he’s a big, big talent.
