Tottenham Hotspur injury news and return dates ahead of clash with Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur travel to Manchester United this weekend with optimism that both Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke will be fit for Saturday’s decider at Old Trafford.
Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that James Maddison suffered a minor setback but could still feature this weekend. Spurs continue to win the Premier League this campaign and find themselves at the foot of the table ahead of the trip to Old Trafford.
The North London side will be desperate for three points as they return to action after the long international break.
Maddison continues his rehabilitation after being sidelined for most of last season due to injury, and he suffered a minor setback last week that could limit his playing time in the coming weeks.
Here, football.london provides the latest information on injury news and potential return dates for Tottenham Hotspur players…
James Maddison
James Maddison is still on the road to recovery after missing most of last season through injury, and last week he suffered a minor setback that could limit his minutes for the next few weeks.
What De Zerby said: “He’s fit, but he missed three/four days at the end of last week and it came on. James is a special player for us. Gallagher is doing well in the No.10 role. We’re both disappointed because James wants to be on the pitch.
“It’s not a big injury and he can play tomorrow, but the Premier League is tough and you have to be fit and in the right position to run and fight. He’s doing well and that’s it. The way is to complete 3/4/5 weeks in a row without pain or problems and then he’s a normal player.”
Potential return date: Saturday, October 10 vs Manchester United (A)

Pedro Porro
Pedro Porro has been forced out of Spain’s Nations League squad after picking up an injury against Aston Villa last month. Initial reports suggested he could be out for up to a month, and De Zerbi gave an update after that.

Mykhailo Mudryk
Mykhailo Mudryk has been limited to just one game under Roberto De Zerbi since signing on a season-long loan from Chelsea due to injury.
The Ukrainian footballer suffered an ankle problem during training last month and has not been able to play since then. However, he could be back in action before the end of the month.
What De Zerby said: “Porro and Mudryk are both unavailable. Pedro is not for many games and Mudryk, maybe more.”

Says Kulusevski
Dejan Kulusevski will go to Manchester United with Tottenham, as he will not participate in the first team from May 2025. He has returned to first-team training in recent weeks, but Spurs have been cautious with the forward given the severity of his injury.
What De Zerbi said: “He’s doing well. He’s coming with us tomorrow to support. He’s doing very well and I think he’s an example for everyone. Forget about the player, but the example of how he reacted to the injury, the character he showed this time was an example and a reference for everyone.”
To the question about when the Swedish star will appear, the head coach of “Spurs” answered: “I don’t know, it’s not only my responsibility, we work together with the medical staff. They work very well with him, they did special things. We have to analyze it week by week.”
Potential return date: End of October/November
Wilson Odobert
Wilson Odobert has been ruled out of Tottenham Hotspur’s first team after going under the knife with an ACL injury in February. Reports suggest he could return in November, provided his rehabilitation continues without setbacks.
Potential return date: november
Xavi Simons
Xavi Simons is also rehabilitating after undergoing surgery for an ACL tear sustained over the summer. Although his recovery is encouraging, he is not expected to feature under De Zerby until the new year.
Potential return date: 2027
Jan Paul van Hecke
Summer signing Jan Paul van Hecke picked up a knock while on international duty with the Netherlands and de Zerbi made it clear the defender is fine but could still miss the game. At the end of last month, he was also injured while representing the Netherlands with a training problem a day after the national team’s 2-1 win over Serbia.
The Spurs boss said: “That’s the difference. Yesterday JP’s wife had twins and was emotional but she’s ready.”
