Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among a number of clubs tracking Lyon midfielder Pavel Schulz following his impressive promotion in France.
The Czech international has quickly established himself as one of Lyon’s biggest attacking threats, with his performances now attracting interest from Spurs and a host of other clubs.
But Tottenham may have to spend big to get him.
Reports suggest that Lyon will demand at least €50m before selling, raising an interesting question for Spurs after investing heavily in midfield in the summer.
Šulc’s stock continues to rise
Šulc only joined Lyon in August 2025 but wasted little time making an impact.
The attacking midfielder scored 11 league goals and provided three assists in 27 games during an impressive debut campaign, with a reported 35 goal contributions in all competitions.
His rise has also been recognized at home, with Šulc named the Czech Footballer of the Year for 2025.
As an attacking midfielder and capable of operating along the forward line, Šulc would offer Tottenham another player capable of scoring from behind the striker.
This performance helps explain why his reputation has grown so rapidly and why Lyon is in a position to demand a significant fee.
Will Spurs spend another €50 million?
This may ultimately be the most interesting question surrounding Tottenham’s reported interest.
Spurs bolstered their midfield in the summer with the additions of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, meaning another €50m move would represent a significant further investment in this area of the squad.
However, their difficult start to the Premier League season is a clear argument for further improvement.
“Tottenham” did not win in the league after the first five matches and collected only two points from a possible 15 games.
Both of Tottenham’s league goals came in a 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, meaning Spurs had failed to score in each of their previous four matches.
The appeal of the midfielder, coming off an 11-goal league campaign for a side struggling to find a forward, is obvious.
Šulc can offer Spurs something different
Šulc’s numbers suggest he can provide more than just another creative option.
His ability to get into dangerous positions and contribute goals could give Tottenham another dimension in the bottom three, especially if their early season struggles continue.
There is currently no indication that Spurs have submitted a bid or opened formal talks with Lyon, meaning this remains a reported interest rather than an active transfer deal.
But Šulc’s trajectory is on the upswing, and another strong season in France will only increase the attention surrounding him.
If Lyon continue for around €50m, Tottenham will have to decide whether the attacking threat he can bring after bolstering their midfield in the summer is worth another big investment.
