The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have established a five-man Search Committee to oversee the recruitment of a new head coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The committee was established on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a meeting between the leadership of the GFA and the Ministry in Accra.
The panel will be chaired by former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe. He brings extensive experience in football administration and management to the recruiting process.
Pappoe will work alongside four other members:
– Anthony Baffoe, Secretary General of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and former Ghana international;- Agbesi Dzakpasu (Esq.), lawyer and football administrator;- Stephen Appiah, former Black Stars captain; and- Faisal Chibsah, high performance specialist.
The committee’s terms of reference require it to identify and evaluate potential candidates before recommending the most suitable person for the vacant coaching position.
It will present its findings and recommendation to the Ghana Football Association.
The Black Stars post became available on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz stepped down after the September international window.
The GFA and the Ministry said the appointment process will be transparent and based on merit as they look for a competent coach to handle the team’s upcoming assignments.
