Amy Martinez’s move to Chelsea came as a bit of a surprise in the end. When everyone gave up on the idea of replacing Robert Sanchez, the club suddenly went and did it.
While on international duty, the Argentinian goalkeeper spoke to TyC Sports about why he decided to leave Aston Villa after many successful years there.
Amy Martinez has moved to Chelsea after a long summer wait
“I tried to change clubs to refresh myself mentally and I succeeded,” said the former Arsenal player.
“I came here and it’s the best thing I’ve done because I feel useful, fast and good. In the end I have to represent my country, my family and I have to do my best.”
While this has rejuvenated him mentally, it’s fair to say it hasn’t paid off on the pitch yet. He did not keep a single clean sheet and the team finished last in the league in terms of goals conceded.
It’s not all his fault, but we should see dramatic improvements starting with him.
