Sky Sports Man City manager Enzo Maresca must prepare his players for a “brutal day” when they face Liverpool next weekend, pundit Gary Neville says.
It will be the first game since the club was found guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules.
Speaking about the clash earlier this week, Neville said he expected a feverish atmosphere at Anfield and City needed to prepare for what they were about to face:
“I think if they want to understand how angry the game is [as a whole] will, then Anfield will tell them a week on Sunday, like you would never believe. I suspect that banners may; It’s sure to be a sing-along, a reception like you’ve never seen at Anfield.”
“To be fair, the players who are there will bear the brunt of it, Maresca will too, the reality of it is that day, but it’s going to be a brutal day.”
Man City will deal with it every time
up to appeal will be heard and if the final verdict is announced, the club and its players will have to manage the situation as best they can.
As Neville points out, the away games won’t be easy, especially with the news still fresh in people’s minds after the international break.

Maresca must establish a siege mentality
Of course, the behavior of the club off the field is not the fault of either the manager or the players, but it will be up to them to make the best of a bad situation.
To get results, Maresca would be wise to use an “us against the world” mindset to navigate through this difficult time. It will be interesting to see how the team reacts in the coming weeks.
