With two days until Carolina’s opener, the Chicago Bears have solidified their backfield for the foreseeable future.

Running back D’Andre Swift has reached agreement on a three-year, $33.75 million contract extension that includes $27.5 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His current contract runs through the 2029 season.

This is Swift’s second contract with Chicago. He originally signed a three-year, $24 million deal with the Bears as a free agent in 2024 — a month before the Bears drafted quarterback Caleb Williams — and was scheduled to enter a contract year in 2026.

Swift, 27, is having the best season of his career in 2025, leading Chicago’s ground attack with 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 299 yards and a touchdown. In 2023, in his only season with the Philadelphia Eagles, he surpassed his previous career high and earned his lone Pro Bowl berth.

He performed well throughout training camp, sparking talk of a contract extension last week.

“I think he’s done a great job. I like what he’s done this offseason,” general manager Ryan Boles said on Sept. 1. “He’s looking great. Also in his second year in the system. I think [former Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy] electron beam and [current running backs coach Eric] Studesville was great for him. But I love Swift. I like the way he works. “

Swift has started 34 of 35 games over the past two seasons, including the playoffs, and ranked in the top 12 in rushing yards last season. He and his backfield partner Kyle Monangai built the Bears into the league’s third-best rushing attack (144.5 yards per game) and helped Chicago produce its second-most explosive offense in the regular season (127 yards).

“I feel good,” Swift said last week. “I felt like I had a full training camp. It felt like one of my better camps as far as stacking days, being consistent, etc.”

Swift is the latest to cash in on the running back position as seven more players signed new contracts this offseason, following the record-setting trades of Jameer Gibbs, Bejan Robinson and Jonathan Taylor.

“This is the best I’ve seen him play at this point in the year, and you look back a year ago,” coach Ben Johnson said on Aug. 27. “He’s very explosive, but it’s going to take a little time for it to gel between him and the offensive line. I think he’s accelerating his vision right now.”

“I think he’s doing a really good job right now. But, I think he’s ready for a big year.”
