Tottenham Hotspur officials will closely monitor the progress of Souza, who is currently on loan at Porto.
Souza impressed on his Porto debut. The Tottenham Hotspur loanee inspired the Portuguese giants to a 3-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor Stadium on Thursday, providing a crucial assist to put Francesco Farioli’s side ahead.
Jonathan Asp Jensen put the home team in front in Galicia, Spain. Shortly after the break, Chris Smalling, who Porto only recently signed as a free agent, hit the post before Borja Sainz leveled proceedings on the hour mark.
Francesco Farioli’s side took the lead moments later when Souza played André Silva into the heart of the box with a beautiful cross. The Porto striker doubled his lead in the dying moments of stoppage time, leaping into space and curling a half-volley into the top corner from distance.
In an interview with Porto Channel after the friendly, the Lilywhite wonder revealed her desire to start life in Portugal. “I felt great,” said Souza, who Spurs signed for £13m from Santos in January 2026 and was sent out on loan in the summer, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.

“I’m very happy to make my debut in this beautiful, beautiful form, which I’ve always dreamed of playing. I also want to congratulate the team who are working hard to prepare for the upcoming games in this friendly.”
Asked how he settled in Porto, the Brazilian said: “It’s been better than I expected. Everyone has welcomed me very well, the coaching staff has welcomed me very well and they are helping me in this adaptation process. I’m trying to adapt as quickly as possible to help them.”
Souza added: “We’ve prepared very well. We’ve been training very hard this week. That’s what this friendly is all about: to continue with the momentum we’ve been going and to build on our winning streak and the good games we’ve been playing.”
Meanwhile, speaking to SportTV, also quoted by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Farioli said: “Of course it was a good test for us. Let’s say there were a lot of changes, some players played in different positions: Pepe in the center and Francisco Moura at centre-back.”
The Porto coach added: “Actually, they both played very well. We took advantage of the opportunity and were very limited in several positions.
“So it was definitely a positive test with no injuries and a result that always helps because winning helps winning. We’re happy to change the result and move on. Now we just have to wait for the international players to come back.”
Souza will be hoping to feature again when Porto return to action in the Portuguese League and face Maritimo on Saturday, October 10. The left-back caught the eye of Roberto Carlos, who helped keep Santos in Brazil’s top flight before Neymar joined Spurs.
Speaking at the Portugal Football Summit earlier this week, the Real Madrid legend told O Jogo: “I don’t like to compare. He came to Porto because he has quality.
“He’s a very good player at Santos. It was a great signing. I’m sure he’ll do what’s expected of him on the pitch; he’s a top-class player…”
