Three American players remain in this season’s EFL Cup competition.
Chris Richards, Tyler Adams and Zavier Gozo all sealed their place in the quarter-finals after winning in the round of 16 on Wednesday. Richards and Adams were both in their matches, while Gozo was an unused substitute for Crystal Palace.
Richards recorded one of his best 90-minute performances of the season in a 1-0 London Derby win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The veteran centre-back helped Pierre Sage’s men to a four-match winless run in all competitions by setting up a quarter-final date with Sunderland in mid-December.
Having made just three senior appearances since his summer move from Real Salt Lake, Gozo made his EFL Cup debut against Middlesbrough in the round of 32.
Adams made an impressive 27th-minute substitute appearance on Wednesday, assisting Alvaro Rodriguez’s goal in Bournemouth’s 3-0 home win over Aston Villa. The result was the fifth in a row for the Cherries in all competitions, which also included UEFA Europa League and English Premier League games.
Bournemouth face a tough test when they face former manager Andoni Iraola and his Liverpool side in the quarter-finals in December.
