Nottingham Forest 0-1 Coventry: Sky Blues’ first Premier League win in 25 years

Coventry City recorded their first Premier League victory in 25 years with a narrow 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Jay da Silva scored the only goal of the game shortly after half-time to give Frank Lampard’s side a famous win, moving them up to 18th in the table.

For Forest, a late goal was disallowed and they are currently in 12th place after suffering their second league defeat of the season.

Nothing can separate the two sides

Coventry are yet to score since returning to the Premier League. That situation showed little sign of changing in the early stages of the game, when Jack Rudoni’s shot went over the crossbar.

Frank Lampard’s side got another goal minutes later when Brendan Thomas Assante’s first-time shot from the edge of the area was saved by Mats Sayles.

At the other end, Neco Williams shot from distance, but the ball went straight to Carl Rushworth in the Coventry goal.

The 25-year wait is finally over

Going into half-time nothing could separate the two teams and the game at the City Ground proved to be a cagey affair.

However, just 10 minutes after the restart, history was made. DaSilva played a long ball from above, slotted in behind Daniel Munoz, and cleverly slotted the ball past Seles for his first goal for Coventry and the club’s first in the top flight in a quarter of a century.

Frank Lampard’s side had a lead to protect for the first time in the league this season – and Bobby Thomas helped preserve it with an athletic run off the line to prevent a goal after Igor Jesus had flicked the ball past Rushworth.
