Nick Woltemade won plaudits from the Italian media for his performance in Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Rennes in the Europa League on Thursday night, a night the German equaled the record previously held by Roberto Baggio and Darko Kovacevic.

After his performance in Juventus 2-2 Rennes, newspapers wrote about Woltemade

It wasn’t the most convincing performance on a collective level, as Juventus had to fight for a point at home to Rennes at the Allianz Stadium, but Woltemade was praised by the likes of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport after helping the Bianconeri in the second half and then with a penalty.

Woltemade has now scored in all of his first three European matches for Juventus, a feat previously only achieved by Baggio in 1990 and Kovacevic in 1999.

La Gazzetta dello Sport writing that it was a game that “brought out” Woltemade’s best qualities, noting that he was “completely comfortable” given the opportunity to play in his preferred position behind an out-and-out centre-forward (Randal Kolo Muani) in the final three.

The front page On Friday, Corriere dello Sport claimed Woltemade had finally “crossed the line” for Juventus, while Tuttosport suggested the Newcastle loanee was “the only one showing the right spirit” on the pitch.
