Newcastle United fan/writer reaction after Newcastle 0 Everton 1

Newcastle 0 Everton 1 – Monday 2 November 2026, 8pm

Instant fan/writer reaction from some of our regular contributors at The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

“I went into the match with optimism (even after Thursday night…) but it turned out to be misplaced.

It was our weakest performance so far, maybe I’m being harsh because of how disappointing the game was.

As poorly as we played, it was still only one goal and we could have scored an equaliser, but that doesn’t hide the fact that it was a poor game of football.

I’m going to London for the match on Saturday, that’s what I’m saying, but let’s hope for the best…”

Greg McPeake:

“I can honestly say that I have never booed the Newcastle team.

I laughed at George Reilly and Billy Whitehurst … but that was about it.

Moyes did a job on us and educated our manager.

Player for player we are by no means outmatched and we were close to scoring in the second half and if so, speed is everything.

Who knows if Elanga had a chance?

Billy Miller:

Wow wow

Worst performance of the season.

It shouldn’t have been a goal. First there was no foul for the free kick, then Barry fouled Schar before scoring.

However, we defended the move horribly and deserved nothing anyway.

Another miserable Monday.’

Jamie Smith:

“A terrible poor performance full of misplaced passes, pointless attacks and zero urgency.

Toure entered the field in the 85th minute and claimed the title of man of the match.

The current feeling is that this looks like a serious concern, a relegation battle after SJP’s worst performance in a long time.

Tony Mallabar:

“I said after Thursday that we’re entering McClaren/Bruce territory… we’re there now.

Another clueless performance with no leading edge.

Osula reverted to his best headless chicken mode and Ramsay foolishly sent himself off.

I really don’t see any progress and I said this after Leeds, this manager is way out of his depth.

David Punton:

“A small defeat, but still a defeat.

It’s another game against the blue half of Merseyside where we come up just short.

To me, this raises questions about our manager’s future at work.

He is under pressure.

On another night we might have drawn.

The cherry on the cake was a late red card to add to the misery for Jacob Ramsey. He let us in there, big time.

Formation and tactics don’t really work.

Troubled times. It all has a weird Mike Ashley-era feel to it.

Matt Busby said…

“It was against a side that humiliated us on Thursday, so I was expecting a reaction.

Now we got it.

This goalkeeper is responsible, I said after the same crowd let us down at Murrayfield and Toure did more in ten minutes than Barnes and Elanga combined.

Desperate times. Regression on a monumental scale.’

GToon:

‘A way out of his depths.

This man is completely clueless.

He takes a team of decent players and turns them into the worst team we’ve seen in a year.

Bruce is a better manager than this guy. Jaisel is out! And now it’s not Christmas.
