Michael Carrick supported as Man Utd fans torched players

Manchester United fans made their feelings clear after their 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, backing Michael Carrick and directing their frustration at the players and Jason Wilcox.

After another bruising afternoon at Old Trafford, the reaction after the final whistle was a story in itself. Support for the manager sat alongside anger at a team whose winless run stretched to eight matches in all competitions.

Why fans support Michael Carrick

Carrick’s support stems from frustration with a familiar cycle. Eric ten Haag and Ruben Amorim arrived with strong reputations, but neither produced a sustained revival. For his advocates, another change in the shelter provides little reassurance if recruiting and standards among players remain unresolved.

This support shows that Carrick’s commitment is not what these fans are questioning. Their anger is focused on how the squad is assembled and how the players react when results go against them. “Carrick is still a legend,” wrote @ori0n7 before blaming the current players for not winning matches.

@IamWeal12644247 repeatedly questioned changing coaches while keeping the same players. The argument is that a new manager cannot automatically address concerns about attitude, effort, and responsibility.

Recruiting under Wilcox also faced scrutiny over staff balance. For supporters reaching out to the club’s management, transfer decisions deserve to be scrutinized alongside Carrick’s tactics. Supporting Carrick does not mean supporting every tactical decision.

@MarManUtd made this point clear: “You have to say goodbye to INEOS and WILCOX before you say goodbye to Carrick”. These responses explain the support of some supporters; they do not make a unanimous verdict.
