Martinez chose “technical director” due to criticism in Madrid.
Wilcox was not mentioned in his testimony, although it was part of discussions with former Leeds and Blackburn player Martinez, who was appointed as United’s director of football following the sacking of Dan Ashworth in December 2024, which led to his latest revelation about his conduct.
Wilcox is back in the spotlight after being targeted by Ruben Amorim in his last press conference before being fired in January.
The 55-year-old spoke publicly to United’s own media channel just once 12 months ago.
“It’s not for me to say if he is,” Carrick said when asked if Wilcox was the one to explain his actions to the media.
“I have no problem sitting here and talking to you and leading the group, leading the team, leading the football club from this position. We are all in this together.
Carrick doesn’t see a problem with Martinez not mentioning Wilcox.
“He’s come forward, he’s realized he was wrong, and I think that’s enough for all of us to move on,” he said.
“We want the passion, the emotion, the fire and the players to care. There is a way to do that and that has already been acknowledged.
“But we’ve got to carry that intensity, that desire and togetherness and spirit and everything you can bring with it. As a group, we’ve got to use that and use it the right way.”
