There was a potentially game-changing moment on Saturday when Chelsea goalkeeper Amy Martinez was sent off with a broken jaw after a horrific collision with Jarrad Branthwaite.
It means an unexpected Premier League debut for 21-year-old Mike Penders, who has had just moments to prepare. If he looked nervous, it could affect the whole team when they were at their weakest and he rocked the pace against the Blues,
Instead, he immediately looked at the controls, and for a moment pundit Stuart Pearce in particular was impressed.
Pundit Pearce is impressed by Penders’ authority
“Penders came in. He looked confident. He did. He came in for a cross from 17 yards; unbelievable. I thought, ‘If you don’t get it, you’re going to look like a clown’,” Pearce said on TalkSport, as quoted by the Chelsea Chronicle.
“He did really well; caught the odd pass. When he came on in the last 20 minutes and got the second goal, it was game over. They slowed him down. Now he’s going to get an extended run. [in the team].”
