Alexia Putras says London City Lions want to “build something special” with a 2-0 win over Brighton to move second in the Women’s Super League.
Putras scored his first league goal since joining the Lions to help the Lions win and narrow the gap on leaders Manchester City to three points.
London City dominated throughout the game and were rewarded for their bright start in the 29th minute when Putras picked out the bottom corner from the edge of the box after Brighton’s defense slackened.
The Seagulls almost equalized moments later when Emily Murphy’s curling header hit the crossbar and Shiko Sek fired wide from the rebound.
Freya Godfrey also hit the City woodwork in the second half, but Lucia Corrales secured all three points after a counterattack in the 92nd minute from Delphine Cascarino’s cross.
Putras has been outspoken about her desire to achieve great things with London City this season and she is delighted to achieve success for her new club.
“I’m happy, I’m proud. The most important thing is we got three points here,” she told Sky Sports.
“We try to be unpredictable. We can score with the ball and with counterattacks; we can do both. I think we did that.
“It’s a new challenge for everyone; we want to build something special here and we have to keep pushing and showing each other off. We want to be at our best this season.
“This is just the beginning; we are just getting started. There are many points left. We have to improve the same details; we will get there [around the top of the table] must. “

London City only had a slight lead in shots on target compared to Brighton (11 to 10), but had 3 shots on target.
The away team has also amassed a higher expected goals total at 1.6 xG, while the Lionesses have amassed 1.3.
London City could be back on top of the table at the end of the weekend with five WSL matches on Sunday, but manager Eder Maestre is confident they can continue to cause problems for top teams.
“We have a loser mentality; we are humble but have goals to reach these limits,” she told Sky Sports.
“It’s temporary but we have big dreams so hopefully we can be in this position later in the game.”
