Liverpool go in search of a fifth straight win in all competitions when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup at Anfield this evening.
The Merseysiders bounced back well from defeat at home to Manchester City on October 11 with wins over LASK, Brentford, Villarreal and Brighton.
Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-0 at home last time out to end their two league winning streak. Goalkeeper Mike Penders was at fault for one of the goals and to make matters worse, Cole Palmer was sent off for two yellow cards in nine minutes.
With no European football this season, the EFL Cup represents Chelsea’s first chance at domestic silverware and boss Xabi Alonso may take it more seriously than some of his rivals. Although Alonso made nine changes against Leeds, Chelsea reached this stage by beating Luton Town and then Leeds United 6-3. “Liverpool” made 10 changes and again defeated “Tottenham” with a score of 3:1 in the last round.
