Ligue 1: PSG v Lyon at Parc des Princes moved to Monday as Paris prepares for another weekend of protests

Paris St-Germain’s Ligue 1 match against Lyon has been postponed until Monday as the French capital prepares for another weekend of protests.

The match at the Parc des Princes in Paris was scheduled to kick off at 19:45 GMT on Sunday but will instead take place at 20:30 on Monday.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced the postponement in a statement, external on Friday after French police banned the match from taking place on the original date.

French authorities are preparing a major security operation for the demonstrations planned for Saturday.

Around 550,000 people took part in last Saturday’s demonstrations to protest against rising fuel prices, education standards and the cost of living, following weeks of student protests.

Marches supported by trade unions and student groups took place in several major French cities, including Paris, and were marked by some incidents of violence, looting and destruction.

The security challenge is compounded by Sunday’s NFL match between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France, an event that will require a significant police deployment.

The game will be played in Saint-Denis, about 10 km from the Place de la Bastille, where the protests are expected to begin.

The suspension affected France’s domestic football schedule as Toulouse’s Ligue 1 home game against Troyes was moved from Saturday to Sunday at the request of the authorities.

Reigning French and European champions PSG are second in the table after seven matches, while Lyon lead the table with 14 points on goal difference.

The match will be played on the same day as the Golden Ball ceremony to be held in London.

PSG’s injured pair, 2025 winner Ousmane Dembele and Xvija Kvaratskhelia, are among the contenders for the prize.
