Key Browns Player Injured

New Cleveland Browns pass rusher Jared Verse may not have a sack yet, but he’s consistently making impressive plays and is a stabilizing presence on this defense. No one expects him to replace Myles Garrett, but he does his job and is a significant reason why Cleveland’s defense hasn’t missed a beat without Garrett.

His consistency and availability have been some of his best traits since entering the NFL, a stark contrast to the man he was traded for, as Garrett has yet to play this year. Unfortunately, he was a little rattled last week against the Tennessee Titans, though head coach Todd Monken doesn’t seem too concerned.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot recently shared that Monken doesn’t believe Versen is in danger of missing Sunday’s massive game against the Pittsburgh Steelers despite not practicing Wednesday with a knee injury.

“#Browns Todd Monken, who won’t practice today with a knee injury, said he doesn’t expect Jared Verse to miss the #Steelers game. He said he has some swelling and they just want to rest him,” Cabot said.

The swelling is a bit of a concern, especially since the Browns still have two more games before their bye week after this Steelers matchup. Verse hasn’t missed a game in his three-year career, so he’d certainly like to continue that streak, but the swelling makes you wonder if it’s in his best interest to play soon, perhaps to give him three weeks off before a bye against the Houston Texans in Week 10.

We’re nearing the middle of the season, so these types of injuries will unfortunately come with the territory, but unless the knee problem is worse than expected, it’s hard to imagine Verse missing this big of a game. He was a big part of the reason this defense pulled out a win against Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and his teammates will need him again on Sunday.

Keep an eye out for updates on this as the rest of the practice week unfolds.
