“I just want to score, whether it’s like that or not [after being shown a clip of his first goal for Liverpool against Everton, a screamer from outside the penalty area].
“A goal is a goal and I just want to help the team. I want to show the fans that I can help the team fight for the Champions League, win the league again.”
Jones’ former Liverpool team-mate Alexander Isak described him as the most underrated player he played with.
In response, Jones said: “It’s nice, yeah. It’s also a compliment. He wasn’t the only one who said things that were said by the guys I played with in the past, so it’s good that I have teammates who appreciate me. There are things on the field that teammates will not understand.

“Now I understand that the game is now about statistics, goals and assists and I know I may not score as many goals as some guys, but there are a lot of things I do on the pitch that my teammates and fans appreciate.”
Jones was part of the Liverpool side that beat Inter at the San Siro in the Champions League in the season before he was transferred between the two clubs.
“When I played against them in the Champions League and we won, I saw the connection between the players and the fans,” recalls Jones.

“Liverpool and I have always had the same thing because I’m a footballer and I’ve always had that connection with the fans and I’ve always said that it feels like the 12th man on the pitch and I feel that these fans and this team have the same thing, so it was an easy choice.”
So how has he found life in Milan so far?
“It’s different, but I love it too,” he replied. “The family has settled in, that’s what’s important. I’ve come to a team where the fans, the players, the staff are all great, so I feel at home. I don’t feel like a new guy, I’ve been here for a long time.
“I don’t think there is a serious change [between Serie A and the Premier League]. I feel that the perspective of the league is that it is a slower league and the standard is not as high.

“I can agree to a certain extent that teams will play against teams like us, but it was the same with Liverpool: one of the best teams in the league, so I don’t think other teams will come and try to squeeze us, they will sit in the lower block and make it difficult for us.”
So what does he think he brings to the Inter midfielder?
“Energy and composure as well. I’m a guy who wants to go and take risks. At the same time, I think it’s good for guys who want to go and play in the back line and never be pressed, but rarely do I want to be that guy, play in the middle of the park, get on the ball, try and try to score.
“There will be times when I take risks and it doesn’t work out, but I want to go and bring an energy where I can help and excite the fans. We want to go and win the league, but we want to go and win the Champions League and I think you have to bring a different energy and experience.

“Obviously there is John [Stones] Who was a part of it, there’s me who was a part of it, there’s Djed [Spence] who also played So, this is also an experience.”

“Yes, 100%,” he said. “If you look at the quality of the guys around, the ones who can go and score, assist, create, I feel like there’s a team bond and an energy around them.
“We play against teams and if a team scores, we don’t panic, we don’t get scared. The fan base is also big, so open, which is a big help. I just feel that the team needs it, I would never join a team like that.
“I don’t think there’s anything in the team where I’m going to look around and say ‘we’ve got to change this, we’ve got to change that’, of course there will be little things, but I don’t think the difference is far.”
